           Before that couch comes off the moving truck, grab your phone and take a complete photo and video tour of your new place. We're talking about everything—every room from multiple angles, all appliances, floors, walls, windows, countertops, and especially any existing damage no matter how small. Got a tiny scratch on the hardwood? Photo it. Small paint chip by the door frame? Photo it. Cabinet that doesn't quite close right? Photo and video it.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This isn't about being paranoid or distrustful. It's about protecting both you and us. When move-out time comes (even if that's years away), these photos are your evidence of the home's condition when you arrived. This makes the security deposit process straightforward and fair for everyone. Store these photos in a dedicated folder on your phone or computer, and consider emailing them to yourself as a backup.
